WHITE FELLS arrives in bookstores!

Happy Holidays,

Garland

-------------------------

November 2007

Last month  I mentioned shopping for faerie garb to attend my first ever Faerie Masquerade Ball.  What a great time my  husband and I had.  The costumes were spectacular and the lyrical music pulsed in all the creative hearts who attended.  Pictures from the Faery Masquerade Ball and FaerieCon 2007 are below.  FaerieCon is the first International Faerie Convention on the East Coast and was the host for the masquerade ball.   It was a gathering of artists, writers, and performers who celebrate and honor all things faerie and I am glad I was invited to attend.  If you would like more information about  FaerieCon, visit: www.faeriecon.com

Posing for a picture at FaerieCon.

The countdown to WHITE FELLS's December release continues ...  As I write this, the winds are blowing the autumn glory of our trees about our yard.

Have you ever been able to describe the wind?  A breeze that is light and fresh?  A sudden gust or blast, a driving rush?  Have you heard the twigs breaking off branches or seen the sea heaps of white foam blown in streaks in one direction?  What if the wind wanted you?  What if an ancient zephyr came just for you?  It is a rare fey claiming that only one of the blood can know ...

Until next month.  Happy Thanksgiving.

October 2007

The weather is turning cooler in New England and I have spent the past few weeks shopping for faerie garb.  Yes, I am shopping for glitter and wings, not a common occurrence I can assure you but definitely a fun one.  This is all due to a Faerie Masquerade Ball, which my husband and I will be attending in October.  I'm looking forward to it.

The third month of my countdown to the release of WHITE FELLS, begins with a visit to Newgrange, a passage-grave in Ireland, which archaeology dates more than 600 years older than the Giza Pyramids in Egypt and 1,000 years more ancient than Stonehenge.  According to some Celtic Mythology, Newgrange provided the setting for numerous ancient tales and was one of those perfectly magical and historical places for my hero and heroine of WHITE FELLS.  It sits atop a elongated ridge near the Boyne river and west of a small town.  On the Winter Solstice, the light of the rising sun penetrates the roof of the passage-grave and illuminates the floor for 17-minutes . . . otherwise, it is filled with shadow and darkness.

See you next month,

September 2007

Mean Fhomhair, September comes bringing in mid-autumn and a cooling of air.  Every season has its pleasures and I enjoy each one.  The final edits of WHITE FELLS are complete and the book is in my publisher's hands.

I thought I would kick off my countdown to the book's December release by discussing the word Fells.  Several readers wrote to me asking about the word.  Fells is olden, a word coming down from Scotland and Northern England.  It can mean an upland pasture, moor, or thicket.  The word derives from fjall, which means mountain.

I sometimes experience difficulty naming my books and one day, while I was putting the finishing touches on my first draft, White Fells came to mind.  I think my hero and heroine decided upon it.

Until next month,

Garland

July 20, 2007

This just in:

FEY BORN is the WINNER of the 2006 National Reader's Choice Award in the paranormal category!  I'm very excited because this is an accolade from readers, like you.  Thank you!

July 2007

The Fourth of July is the only holiday that celebrates the diverse nation of the United States and so I thought it would be fun to take a quick look. The Declaration of Independence was signed by the thirteen colonies on July 4, 1776 wherein they declared their independence from Britain.  Can you name the original colonies?  New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.  ~ I had to look them up  ~ Happy Birthday, America!

As promised, I've posted the excerpt for WHITE FELLS on the book's page and added the cover art above.  Please stop by and meet Boyden, the hero of the third book of my Faery Faith series.   In addition, my friend Sharon sent me a new review for FEY BORN that she found on The Romance Studio's website.  I've posted a part of the review on FEY BORN's book page.

Until next month,

Garland

June 2007

Welcome to midsummer, Meitheamh, the month of June and warm sunlight. While doing research for WHITE FELLS (December 2007), I stumbled upon some fun tidbits about one of the nine midsummer herbs, Yarrow.  Did you know that Yarrow can cure baldness, toothache, dysentery, cystitis and - when said with the right incantation - confer power over men?  I didn't.  What a marvelous possibility...

"I will pluck the yarrow fair

That more benign shall be my face

That more warm my lips

That more chaste shall be my speech

Be my speech the beams of the sun

Be my lips the sap of the strawberry.

May I be an isle in the sea

May I be a hill on the shore

May I be a star at the waning of the moon

May I be a staff to the weak

Wound can I every man

Wound can no man me."

~ Alexander Carmichael, 1900

Stop by next month for the long awaited excerpt on WHITE FELLS.

Blessings,

Garland

May 2007

I have some exciting news to share with you ~  FEY BORN has finaled in the 2007  Holt Medallion Award, paranormal category.  The "Holt" is an acronym for Honoring Outstanding Literary Talent and I am honored to be considered.  I also received a phone call the other day that the book has finaled in the 2006 National Reader's Choice Award, paranormal category. This contest is judged by readers, which makes it very special.  Winners are to be announced in the months ahead but I want to send congratulations to all in both contests!

As the contracts are signed, sealed, and delivered, I can finally share this additional news with you.  The DARKSCAPE series has found a new home with Medallion Press.  In the months ahead, check the book pages on this website for details.  In the meantime, I'm finishing work on my shapeshifter tale and hope the month of Bealtaine finds you well.

Blessings,

Garland

March 6, 2007

An early St. Patrick's Day gift arrived in my email today!  My publisher surprised me with the cover for WHITE FELLS, Book III in my Faery Faith series.  To take a look, click on the book's link above or at left in the navigation bar.  It is amazing.  Can anyone guess who the model is?  I'm not telling... at least for now.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

March 2007

Brrrr, March blew into New England upon winter's white breath.  Thank goodness for wool socks and cozy blankets. Now, I know why animals hibernate.  I've recently finished an interview for Night Owl Romance, which was a lot fun.  If you have time, stop by.   I love their purple background.

Over the next few months, I'm also hoping to post some exciting news about DARKSCAPE so check back when you can.

Until then, looking forward to spring!

February 2007

February is the month of romance and what a perfect time to discuss the magnificent flower we call the Rose.  Have you ever been curious about the different meanings behind the hues of your Valentine roses.  I have.  Valentine’s Day and red roses go together like cookies and milk.  However, purple, coral and orange offer other associated meanings when given on Valentine’s Day.

  • Red roses - as we all know, are the Valentine roses and mean romantic love.

  • Purple roses - the giver has fallen in love at first sight.

  • Coral and orange roses - signals desire.

Here are some of the other popular colors:

  • Yellow roses - joy and friendship.

  • Pink roses - gratitude and appreciation.

  • Light Pink roses - feelings of admiration or sympathy.

  • Peach roses - are a little more ambiguous and can signify either sympathy or gratitude.

  • White roses - for purity, reverence, and humility.

  • Black roses -  for death or vengeance towards a foe.

Whatever the color of the rose, I always enjoy them.

I have been playing around with my website again and added another picture to my author page, a new link's page for places to visit.  I've also added an inspiration page behind the Faery Faith books, click on the word inspiration to see the pictures.

As new reviews come in for Fey Born, I continue to post them and want to say thank you to my readers for their emails.  I am enjoying all of them.

Blessings and wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day!

January 2007

 Happy New Year!

The January issue of Ladies' Home Journal has an article about starting the new year with a celebration inventory, a celebration of yourself, and what you accomplished over the past year.  I think it is a wonderful way to begin 2007, emphasizing the positive, emphasizing life.

As an author, I consider myself very lucky to be able to explore my inner life and imagination and ... best of all, share it with you, my wonderful readers.  So I begin 2007 with a celebration of you, the reader, who make the worlds and realms of authors possible.

Blessings,

~ Garland ~

December 2006

Fey Born arrives in bookstores this month!

December is a magical month, full of family, friends, gift-giving, and surprises.  The other day, my neighbor drove his little red car down his 750-ft driveway, turned right, came up my 250-ft driveway, knocked on my door, and said, "Merry Christmas."  In his hands was a large brown box.  Imagine my surprise when the box turned out to hold my author copies of Fey Born.  Apparently, Federal Express mistook my neighbor's driveway for mine.  Thank goodness for honest neighbors.  After I thanked him, I put the box on the kitchen table and opened it. My friends all laugh at me because the first thing I always do is  - pick up a copy, hold it in my hands, and sniff.  I enjoy the smell of new books. Sniffing makes the book more real somehow and in this magical season one must celebrate and fill all the senses.

I hope you enjoy Fey Born as much as I did in researching and writing it.

Wishing you joy this holiday season,

~ Garland ~

November 2006

In the old Irish, November marks Samhain, summer's end, the beginning of the Celtic year, and long dark evenings.  It is a time of change where the earth remembers all things and so do those born of the fey.

Fey Born, book two of my Faery Faith series, arrives next month after a long wait and I want to thank my readers for their patience.

This month we visit the fey of Celtic myths.  Modern interpretations of the faeries tend to make them harmless and pretty, a child's tiny companion with wings.  In the olden Irish, Welsh, and Arthurian myths that is not the case.  These beings come in all forms and can be benevolent or malign.  For Keegan and Lana, their journey begins in the oral folklore of ancient Ireland where these beings exist - and ends in a choice that could very well break the heart ...

Look for Fey Born arriving next month and,

Happy Thanksgiving to you and family,

~ Garland ~
